Northcote Cricket Club Second XI Makes History with Back-to-Back Premierships

In a thrilling finale to the season, the Northcote Cricket Club second team has secured their second consecutive premiership a feat rarely done in Premier Cricket.

The road to victory was not easy, at Christmas the team was required to win all remaining home and away games just to make finals, which they did scraping into eighth position on the ladder. However, under the great leadership of Nick Brandon – Jones (NBJ), their dedication, hard work, and teamwork ultimately paid off, culminating in Back-to-Back Premierships.

Captain of the second team, NBJ, expressed his pride in the team's achievement, stating, "Winning back-to-back premierships is a testament to the talent and commitment of every single player on this team. We have worked tirelessly to reach this point, and I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished together."

After scraping into eighth position the second XI had to win the premiership the hard way, needing to win all 3 finals away from Bill Lawry Oval to secure the title. There were some commanding finals performances including Will Blair’s 108 against Prahran, Roby Lane’s 12 finals scalps and Jack Andrews 8 catches in the GF. Yet no performance was more important than NBJ’s 45 in the 1st innings of the final that took us a long way to the flag and earned him player of the final.

With a wealth of talent this team is set to play a big part in the future of Northcote Cricket Club, but for now the boys will celebrate and enjoy the flag.
