ROUND'S 6 / 7 / 8 - 2024 - A TOTAL WASHOUT

RAIN WINS OUT

In what was a highly anticipated weekend of cricket where all teams were to play 2 T’20 games and a total of 32 points were up for grabs not a single ball was bowled across the competition. After a heavy week of rain, grounds around Victoria succumbed to the heavy Saturday morning showers that did not let up.

Fortunately for the 4 grades Cricket Victoria made the early decision to call it, which meant the teams could get back to Bill Lawry Oval for our Movember function, raising awareness for Mens Mental Health. Congratulations to all the players who participated and grew some really terrible Soup Strainers for a fantastic cause.

ROUND 5 - 2024 - REVIEW NORTHCOTE V's FOOTSCRAY + U18's

1ST XI - NORTHCOTE 5/255 DEFEATED FOOTSCRAY 9/242

Bill Lawry Oval again turned it on producing a super competitive and entertaining game of cricket that went down to the wire, ultimately it was Tearan Gleeson maiden 1st XI Ton that got the job done for the Dragons.

The Doggies won the toss and sent Northcote in with the Dragon’s top order, Gleeson 101 and Josh Sundberg a run a ball 72, methodically building the score to 255.

In 36 degree temperatures the bowlers were going too need to bowl and field well to knock over a very strong Footscray batting line-up. The game ebbed and lowed and the short boundaries straight and the pitch providing some turn the game went down to the wire but it was Northcote holding on to take home the chocolates in the last over with Jackson Smith taking 3/54.

2ND XI - NORTHCOTE 166 LOST TO FOOTSCRAY 4/170

Plenty of starts with the bat but the lack of partnerships cost the seconds in a disappointing game all round. As we head into the T20’s we will be looking for the seconds turn things around and get back on the winners list, we know what this team is capable of when they get going.

3RD XI - NORTHCOTE 8/219 DEFEATED FOOTSCRAY 7/215

Mitch Lawson making his come back to the 3rd XI and doing it “easy” with 83 was the difference in the third XI

We were sent in to bat on another fantastic Mayer Park pitch but it was Mitch Lawson class that got us through with confidence and wickets in the bank go big in the last overs. Ryan (Anaerobic Beast ) Siede finished strong with 32 off 21 to push us to 219

The Doggies started well but it was the Captain Ryan Siede ( 2/33) who picked up 2 quick wickets before handing the ball over to the spin cartel Earl Dicesare (1/19 off 9 overs), Qasim Khan and Adi Saini (1/39) who all brought the skill and pressure which led to 2 run outs. Northcote was in control with the doggies needing 90 off the last 9 but some good hitting led to Footscray needing 14 off the last but cometh the hour cometh the man and the skipper steeped up agin to close out the over restricting them to 9.

4th XI - NORTHCOTE 5/221 DEFEATED FOOTSCRAY 220

An 85 run partnership between Yash Sharma (59) and Imran Khan (47*) was the difference in the Fourths as they cruised to their 3rd win in row. The Dragons were in control with the ball after winning the toss having the Doggies 6/92 after 23 overs before they consolidated and pushed the score to 220. Pick of the bowlers was old man Fitzgerald with (2/19 off 9 overs) with plenty of cramping. Josh Alonso took (3/39). Call out to myself for coming back on to bowl to close out the innings, with my last 2 overs going for 4 runs and taking 2 wickets.

Tiger took on the new ball taking 19 from the first over which got our innings away but regular wickets put us in a precarious position at 4/ 100 of 25 still needing over 120 to win, enter Yash and Imran. A great partnership got us within reach and a superb highlights reel from Avi Guha 20 off 9 balls saw us across the line.

U18’s - NORTHCOTE 9/113 V’s ST KILDA 4/114

The heat was replaced by rain on Sunday delaying the start to the U18’s game against St Kilda and when the clouds finally lifted, we were given the opportunity to play a 24 over game. Northcote was sent in and was able to compile 113 which included some clean hitting from Anagha Bhan (38 off 39) and Earl Dicesare (22 off 18) but unfortunately 5 run outs restricted our total. Defending 113 was going to be hard on a good pitch and carpet outfield but we bowled and fielded our hearts out and St Kilda passed us in the last over of the game.

Round 4 - 2024 - Review Northcote CC V's Ringwood CC

1ST XI - NORTHCOTE CC 4/233 DEFEATED RINGWOOD CC 230

A really gritty win makes it two wins in a row and the boys roll into white ball cricket with confidence that their best cricket can match it with anyone.

Ringwood raced away on day 1 to be none for 89 only for the Dragons to slowly start to peg them back and regular wickets through attacking yet tight bowling saw us roll through Ringwood’s strong batting line up to dismiss them for 230. Joe Medew-Ewen took another 4 wickets following the Round 3 game against Dandenong and local Holy Trinity lad, Leo Manteit, playing in only his fourth First XI game took 3/37 bowling rockets which included the prized wicket of Tom Rogers.

Joe Medew-Ewen followed his performance with the ball by opening the batting as the night-watchmen and made a very impressive 40 off 110 balls against one of the strongest bowling attacks in Premier cricket. At 3 for 84 our Captain and Vice Captain came together to put on 123 runs (Josh Sundberg 68 n.o. and Jack Lalor 95) to see the boys home. Two wins in a row in the top 8 and plenty of confidence going Into white ball cricket.

1sts are at home again this weekend as we take on the Doggies

2ND XI -NORTHCOTE CC 252 LOST TO RINGWOOD CC 7/253

When you don’t meet your own lofty standards and are out batted, bowled and fielded it is hard to win games of cricket but as we have come to expect with this second XI they will never lie down.

9 Batsmen reached double figures yet no one was able to compile and match winning score and the Dragons innings came to and end at 252 with Dan Lalor top scoring with 44.

Our bowlers toiled hard and kept the game tight on the first hot day of the season and Ringwood’s innings closed 7 wickets down in the 83rd over. Pick of our bowlers was our spinners Roby Lane 26 overs 3/65 and Matt Pearce 17 overs 2/38. Our skipper Michael Rogneta took 2/38 and would have found it hard to move on Sunday.

3RD XI - NORTHCOTE CC 281 LOST TO RINGWOOD CC 6/283

On a very batter friendly Mayer Park we needed one of our batsmen to go big, it wasn’t to be the case and ultimately this cost the Third XI.

Jimmy Anderson was the top scorer with 62 and the 3rds had a number of other players reaching 30+ yet we needed our batters to build lager partnerships and go big.

Our bowlers couldn’t contain the Ringwood batters on a very batter friendly pitch and our 281 was passed in the 69th over

4TH XI - NORTHCOTE CC 137 & 6/150 LOST TO RINGWOOD CC 107

When you are defending 137 on a good pitch everything needs to go your way and it definitely did for our Fourth XI on Saturday.

Despite 6 players reaching double figures the fourths could only put 137 on the board but that proved enough when 3rd gamer Thomas Lambert ripped through the batting line up to pick up 5/37 with Aidan Cowie running through the tail to take 3/17. A great second innings 67 for Parvan Singh gets his season underway.

The first hour on Saturday was one of the best hours of cricket I have played, taking 6/27 to win the game was brilliant

Northcote Cricket Club Second XI Makes History with Back-to-Back Premierships

Northcote Cricket Club Second XI Makes History with Back-to-Back Premierships

In a thrilling finale to the season, the Northcote Cricket Club second team has secured their second consecutive premiership a feat rarely done in Premier Cricket.

The road to victory was not easy, at Christmas the team was required to win all remaining home and away games just to make finals, which they did scraping into eighth position on the ladder. However, under the great leadership of Nick Brandon – Jones (NBJ), their dedication, hard work, and teamwork ultimately paid off, culminating in Back-to-Back Premierships.
